Story Summaries From Early 1997

Heh! It's only a few days into the new year of 2002 and what do I find in the depths of my drive but a detailed list of the most of the comic-related fanfic online as of April 1997? Ahhh, it was a simpler time...

I never finished this because it was impossible to maintain, but I'll plunk it online for nostalgia. Some hated pseudonyms have been altered and I cleaned up my code, but other than that...here's a slice of yesteryear.

88 Lines About 44 Muties
By Kielle

A parody of the song "88 Lines About 44 Women" by Nails (NOT Nine Inch Nails). See how many lady muties YOU can identify.

Kelly Sez:
"This obscure little song, supposedly about the singer's long chain of bizarre girlfriends, was brought to my attention a few years back by my pal Andrew Carle. Actually, Andrew was supposed to write the all-X-males version and he never did. Pfooey.

"The ones folks have the most trouble with? Oh fine, I'll spill it: Maria is Maria 'Feral' Callasantos. Becky is Rebecca 'Lighttrakker' Littlehale -- read some Power Pack, y'silly things. And 'the thirteenth key' is a tarot term, the technical name for the thirteenth major arcana: Death. Yes, I can do tarot readings...funny for a born-and-bred skeptic, huh? You'd be surprised."

Raj Sez:
"I'm used to dangling plotlines in the X-books, but Fabian Nicieza's departure from X-Force during the "Age Of Apocalypse" left a plotline that wasn't meant to dangle for as long as it has. In this story, I tried to resolve the Reignfire/Sunspot mystery, using every little clue that Nicieza left for us. He gave us all the info; the story merely remained to be told."

By Darqstar

Darqstar Sez:
"Hmmm... Well, a Fairy Tale was something I wrote on the spur of the moment. Nothing special about that one, I was just thinking 'what would be a cute story to make people go, "Awwwww!"'"

A Friend In Need
The sequel to Blading
By Jennifer Sorowitz

Jubilee and Everett have both been badly hurt by Emma Frost's former allies, and while Everett is already on the road to recovery Jubilee is having a somewhat more difficult time of it. The only thing that her friends -- and Jean Grey -- can do now is wait and hope that when she wakes up from her coma, she'll still be the same ol' Jubilation Lee she always was...a hope which may turn out to be a faint one indeed.

Aftershocks
By Perri Smith

Remember What If? #87, in which Jubilee was forced to kill Sabretooth? Perri takes us beyond that glimpse into this alternate world where the X-Men must go on without Beast and Bishop...and a young girl must come to terms with the blood on her hands.

Perri Sez:
"This story was born at 1 a.m., when I was curled up *trying* to sleep right after reading What If... #87 (first mistake). Entire scenes unfolded themselves in front of my eyes, and refused to go away until I broke out the computer and wrote them down. It took two and a half hours, and I was not a happy camper the next morning. This may, in fact, explain the angst level of this story."

The Age Of Animaniacs
By Mice

I suppose it had to be done. {grinning and putting on my dramatic voice} Dot Warner is tragically cut down in her youth and the timeline changes forever... Trapped in a world where real humor is a thing of the distant black-and-white past, a world snared in the malevolent clutches of Baloney himself, can the toons and their mismatched mutant allies pull themselves together to restore true slapstick? Yer damn tootin' they can. Hey, it's Mice -- use your imagination! Guest-starring several ACFF writers in a variety of humiliating guest roles.

A Gothic X-Men Tale
By Aoife

You've read fanboy stories, right? That awful "character representing the author gains godlike powers and joins the X-Men" drivel? Well, this story was written to turn that stereotype upside down, because if there's one thing that this latest newcomer to the X-Mansion is NOT, it's a fanboy! The X-Men may never be the same...Jubilee and Cyclops certainly won't...

A Jubilee Story
By Sixmonkey

It's the last thing any teenage girl wants to deal with...and at a close-knit private school it's impossible to hide for long. GenX has its collective hands full when it becomes apparant that perhaps Jubilee and Everett should have been using a bit more protection... Recommended adults-only for mature themes.

A Level Of Treachery
By Lori McDonald
Part #3 of the Gestalt Arc

Gambit? The X-Traitor? Come back before Onslaught, to an earlier time and an alternate reality where two minds inhabit the same Southern body. There's only one thing that could possibly force Gambit to lead the Marauders into the mansion...and that's the fact that Sinister will murder Rogue if he doesn't.

Lori Sez:
"I wrote a lot of this story listening to the soundtrack to 'Braveheart.' I was working on the last parts of the battle and actually planning a scene where Remy dies, when the CD ended and the music changed. The tempo became upbeat, and Remy lived. It's my lesson to beware what I listen to when I write. :) "

All For Love
By Kathryn
A tale of the Common People

A college student risks revealing her mutant talents to a suspicious world when visiting her beloved becomes more important than her concerns for her own safety.

All The Time In The World
By Patrick Sahlstrom

At least, that's what Doug and Rahne think they have... Short and bittersweet. Recommended for mature audiences for implied sexuality, but it's quite mild really. :)

A Match Made...?
By Jaelle & Orla

A prequel to the Onslaught crossover. Joseph and Rogue reach New York -- will it be destroyed before Onslaught arrives? Find out when Joseph, Rogue, the X-Men, X-Man, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch meet head on. (With a Guest Appearance by Onslaught.)

NOTE: Summary donated by Jaelle, the talkative one of the duo. The story is continued in Don't Feed Her After Midnight!

The Amethyst Saga
By Lady Amethyst
A Labyrinth/X-Men/Interview With The Vampire crossover

As we all know, Sarah came out on top in the movie "Labyrinth"...or did she, really? Amethyst, on the other hand, is a smart young Scotswoman with her priorities straight. She knows that there's a far greater prize waiting at the heart of the Goblyn King's mazes, and when it becomes apparent that her knowledge of the movie is only a fraction of what she'll need to win through, she improvises... This series later crosses over into Marvel and Anne Rice's work.

Lady A Sez:
"This started off as the first X-Men fan-fic I ever wrote. It was initially a Rogue/Gambit story for stripe-l that ended up with three different endings and two Labyrinth prequels. I'll probably separate the Labyrinth elements and rewrite the story sometime in the future as it's some of my earliest work."

A Month Of Terror
By J.B.McDonald and Nony

Who has it worse: Sean Cassidy exiled to the Bahamas with a determinedly randy Emma Frost; the handful of X-Men stuck in the Massachusetts Academy to look after a pack of unruly teenagers; or the unruly teenagers themselves, doomed to stomach Scott Summers' so-called cooking? You decide.

A Mother's Last Gift
The sequel to Shared Memories
By Morgan Lewis

Jean Grey finds that her mindlink with Gambit left some odd residue in the form of a handful of the Cajun's most cherished memories. What is it that strikes a chord in that oldest, most faded memory? What meaning could possibly lie behind the simple sight of a flock of birds...an image carefully set and preserved by someone OTHER than Gambit himself? The clues are not what you may think...

A New Lock To Pick
By Twist
An X-Men/Krynn crossover

When Gambit runs into a cross-dimensional traveller by the name of Victoria Yonkers, he finds to his chagrin that there are better thieves out there in the universe. Because Vic's companion is a kender. The X-Mansion will never be the same...

NOTE: The story is continued in Myth-Teries Abound.

Twist Sez:
"One day I was reading the last Dragonlance book and watching Saturday morning cartoons at the same time. Strange things happened."

A New Perspective
By Twist

In a far-flung peaceful future, our own troubled times have become blurred by the passage of time. Can that brave new world handle the archaelogical revelation that their cherished legends in fact mask a no-holds-barred struggle for species supremacy...?

Twist Sez:
"'Hindsight is 20/20.' So said my US History teacher, repeatedly. I started out trying to prove him wrong, but I think I proved him right."

A Night To Remember
By Angela Cheong

Winging his way through a rainstorm in search of peace of mind, a disillusioned Archangel comes face to face with a curious human child and finds that perhaps Xavier's dream is, indeed, worth the struggle.

Antispam
By Abyss

Make tart comments about junk-posts? Return nasty notes to the posters? Naaah -- too easy. Instead, it's become a tradition on ACFF to make fun of spammers by making their missives into the cores of little fanfic parodies. The world might be a happier place if every newsgroup handled idiots in this amusing matter! Here's some examples from the master...

An Unnatural Gift
By Akin
A tale of the Common People

Just imagine: what if you came down with a debilitating disease...and couldn't die...? Sometimes bearing a mutant gift truly is a curse...

Apocalypse, Soon-ish (or Days of Future Last Tuesday Evening, Just Before The Football)
By Phil "Pinta Scrumpy" Foster

For lo, there shall be an Apocalypse, and the people shall quake with fear and proclaim at length upon the frightening size of his lips... A parody which appeared on RACMX (rec.arts.comics.marvel.x-books). VERY funny stuff.

Phil Sez:
"Well, what can I say? Probably the largest single collection of X-books/RACMX in-jokes to sully the pages of your browser. I tried to be even-handed in who I took the piss out of -- I think the only thing missing is some Rogue/Remy jokes..."

The Ascention Of Abyss
By David B. Beaulieu & Tim Haugen

A story of the Age Of Apocalypse, before the four-comic series: Abyss wasn't always a Horseman. Now for the first time, here's the story of the man who came before him, and how he was toppled from the "throne." This is also the story of three "mortals" who, in our world, would have been heroes: a grim gunman, a British ninja, and a mysterious monk who lived through days of glory only to see the world fall to ashes. Told in script form.

Ashes In The Wind
By J.A.C. Delaney

Summary Under Construction

Chris Sez:
"I began the story 'Ashes In The Wind' as a direct result of a discussion on the Magneto Mailing List. We had been talking about how Professor Xavier was a weak character and how he never did anything. I wrote this story in order to show that Xavier could, indeed, be an interesting fellow. Because the original audience was the MML, I had to make sure that Magneto was also a star character. The result was the original idea for 'Ashes In The Wind.' On a thematic level, it is all about the idea of people refusing to give in to adversity and becoming heroes as a result."

Ashes To Ashes
By Darqstar

Summary Under Construction

Darqstar Sez:
"'Ashes to Ashes' actually started as a bet. I was in e-mail communication with some other X-fans and I'd written 'Choices.' They teased me that I was overly fond of Remy and I'd never do anything bad with him. I defended that if I felt the story called for it, I'd kill him if I had to. They bet that I'd wimp out -- I'd bet that I'd do it. The story kinda sprung around that one idea: how mean *could* I get to Remy and the other X-Men."

The Askani Wars
By Tapestry

Summary Under Construction

Tapestry Sez:
"The idea for 'The Askani Wars' was sparked by The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix. Or, more specifically, the scene where the Mother Askani is talking about the fifty years it took to gather the Clan. I figured things couldn't possibly have been smooth sailing, so I worked in one of the many rebellions and raids that must have occurred in that time.

"It's also been a pet peeve of mine that Marvel never seems to acknowledge that some of their characters haven't seen each other in a rather long time, so, quite naturally (one would think) they should be at least a little bit curious as to how their friends are doing. To make the story seem more 'personal', I squeezed in a bit about Rachel's past acquaintances to boot so she didn't come off as a cold, indifferent 'I've-got-the-power-of-a-god-so-I'll-do-whatever-the-heck-I want' witch that *some* have portrayed her to be through the years."

As The Fur Flies
By Martha McMahon

A totally irreverently weird parody. Take the major characters of everything from the X-Men to McGuyver to the Power Rangers to Star Trek to Highlander to Ranma 1/2 and beyond; plop them all together; turn them into talking animals; and sit back to watch the fur fly, indeed!

At The End Of The Day
By Ruby Lis
A tale of the Common People

Even a janitor can make a difference at a political rally...when said janitor has a little psionic quirk in his genetic makeup.

At The 7-11 From Hell
By Bones

Based on a popular "non-player character" featured in the AOL Generation X online sim. Those rambunctious, obnoxious Generation X kids have messed with Ahmed's precious 7-11 for the last time. Now he's finally snapped...and you won't believe the death toll! Recommended for mature audiences only due to the truly massively excessive (and excessively hilarious, IMHO) levels of gore and violence that only the gifted Bones can achieve. :)

Bones Sez:
"I wrote the thing because of the fact that I had never actually attended a sim at which Ahmed appeared and I thought I might take a shot at the concept. I had already used the Ahmed character once before in the prologue to a sim in which he at one point put a gun to the head of a sucker that'd been gunning down customers and claimed that he was learning to be more aggressive...though Ahmed just got his own gun run across his face, sending him across the counter.

"I used to have a bit of difficulty in that I didn't like losing characters from stories, and would usually skip out and prolong their deaths. However, in this tale, I had to go ten-four on wiping out the joes or the story wouldn't have the intensity it needed to really offend. An amusing form of offense though, mind you. That was what I always aimed for. Something so distorted that you figured you wouldn't want to read it but cannot go without doing so. I feed on the dodgy morals and carnal instincts of others. I was raised by wolves too."

Auld Lang Syne
The sequel to Mall Rats
By Denise Keppel
Part of the Girl Talk series

While Monet and Ariel's older sister Celeste discover that they have far more in common than a similar taste in costumes, Ariel and Jubilee sneak off to another, more "adult" New Year's party. There, the carefree Jubes gets dangerously involved with a guy with spiked drinks and only one thing on his mind... For once, it's the firecracker's turn to be saved by a human friend!

NOTE: The storyline is loosely continued in Boxed Lunch.

The Avalon Quest
By Patrick J. Sahlstrom

Come follow the adventures of a bold (and oddly familiar) group of adventurers as they brave brawls, storms, the Angel Of Death, and the occasional food fight in their search for the mystical Avalon! An funny "Elseworlds" X-Men tale with a distinctly Terry-Pratchett twist.

.-= B =-.

Bad Mojo
By Kielle

Bishop and Gambit share a cheap hotel room while the mansion is being rebuilt yet again (thank you so bloody much, Onslaught!) and Gambit finds that even the sleaziest online credit union won't give him a red cent. A short funny spam-slam written especially for acff.

Kelly Sez:
"This was just a fun little scribble, so I was amazed and pleased to find that people treated it like a real story and wanted to keep it around. I've gotten tons of LOLs for that 'Shatterstar/Rictor' low blow. :) I've never written Gambit before, I don't really like Gambit...nothin' personal, Remy honey, you're just too popular for my tastes...but I was surprised in the course of this how much fun he was to write."

Back To Avalon
By Suzene Campos

A tale of the Age Of Apocalypse

Fleeing the destruction of all he holds dear, a barely conscious Kurt Darkholme falls into the company of the ragtag patrolling band known as the Infernal Gallop. Will this uneasy encounter between the suspicious rebels and the hostile Nightcrawler result in a new alliance...or in bloodshed?

Banshee-To-Banshee Talk
By Twist

Written for St. Patrick's Day. The Cassidy family bean-sidhe finally gets wind of how Sean Cassidy has been using her name "frivolously" and thus sets out to give him a good harsh scolding. Fur is gonna fly, but Black Tom may end up taking the brunt of it when he shows up at just the wrong moment and says just the wrong thing to the irate Gaelic spirit...

Twist Sez:
"This idea has been festering in my brain for a very long time, but I'd promised myself I wouldn't start any new stories (except holiday specials of course) until I finished two of the three uncompleted stories. Luckily, I soon remembered St. Patrick's Day, and was able to get this off my chest. Maybe I'll get around to finishing those other stories one day too..."

The Bard
By Twist

On a leisurely walk down a nearly deserted beach, two X-Men rediscover one of the simpler joys of life in the voice of a lone singer.

Twist Sez:
"There is nothing more relaxing than going out on the beach on a clear night, and singing to the stars, whether you can sing or not (and trust me, I fall under the "or not" category on that one). If you don't believe me, try it. Just make sure there's no one out or about, because, if you're anything like me, the listeners will be running for cover rather than finding a cleansing of the soul. :) But seriously folks, if you love to sing as much as I do, this is for you."

Bathroom Symphony
The sequel to Music To Soothe
By Lori McDonald

Part #3 of Music In The Key Of X

What happens to a man who spends all of his time locked up in a laboratory concentrating on test results and vital experiments with hardly a break for food, rest, or other bodily functions? He goes a little bit mad,of course. Just ask Dr. Hank McCoy.

NOTE: This story is continued in Darker Over Time.

Bearing Tidings Of Joy
By Luba Kmetyk
Part of the Idylls Of The Cat collection

In the course of her limited series, Storm found that Mikhail Rasputin actually survived the fall of the Morlocks, hidden away in another dimension. Now, finally, she must gather the courage to inform his only living relative: Colossus.

Luba Sez:
"since losing family has been so much a driving force in colossus' life for so long, i got tired of wondering if storm ever got around to telling him about his brother (it's kind of like not knowing if colossus knows about his son by nereel or not...)"

Beastly Memoirs
By Ms. Marvel

Refugee from a dead timeline and resigned to a hermit's life beneath the streets of New York, the AOA's Henry McCoy finally decides to set the record straight in his own words. A tale of death, betrayal, cruelty and love; the story of Sinister, the feuding Summers brothers, and a strong beauty named Nightjewel who was the last living soul to see the humanity within the Dark Beast.

Mary Sez:
"I wanted to show the world McCoy wasn't always the sadistic, twisted jerk he is today, and I wanted to delve into how he became the man he is."

Behind The Scenes: An X-Man's Real Worst Nightmare
By Desert Nomad

It's Subplot Assignment Day at the X-Mansion. Who knows what horrors await in that innocent little sheaf of paperwork from Marvel HQ? Cannonball finds out the hard way when he discovers that's he's been -- gasp -- RETCONNED!!!

Beliefs
By Kerrin Watter

How much abuse can the human spirit take before it breaks? She's been offered freedom and felt it brutally torn away so many times that she can no longer tell truth from torture. Which is worse? Shutting off from the world to protect her few remaining shreds of sanity...or believing one last time, no matter what the consequences?

Belonging
By Gamine

A terrible fight over the subject of Joseph drives Gambit to drink and results in Rogue's severe injury in a Danger Room exercise the next morning...or does it? Perhaps it's merely about time that the X-Men proved to the secretly insecure Remy for once and for all that he does, indeed, belong at the Xavier Mansion.

Between Two Thieves
By Denise Keppel

When Jubilee's troubles in class become too heavy for her, pushing her back into old bad habits, she calls the Xavier School hoping to speak to Wolvie. Instead, she gets Gambit. Who, as it turns out, knows exactly what she needs to hear.

Denise Sez:
"The story was written for Rachel, a young girl I used to tutor/mentor. When she worked hard, I would let her read one of my comic books, not an easy task for a dyslexic child. One day, she pointed out that Jubilee looked like she was also learning disabled, which made me go back and re-read a lot about Jubilee. I agreed and she begged me to write this story, which I gave to her the day she moved away. Her last words to me: "I'm glad I'm like you," meaning learning disabled."

Blading
By Jennifer Sorowitz

Even Jubilee can have an angst attack, even when out rollerblading on a beautiful sunny day. Not surprising, considering that Wolverine has abandoned the team and left her all alone. Luckily, Jean is within mindshot and willing to lend a shoulder to cry on...

NOTE: This story is continued in A Friend In Need.

Blinking Into Existence
By Reuben "Supereub" A. Macapinlac

Generation X's grief over the death of one of their teachers must be temporarily placed on a back burner when the last death they mourned is abruptly undone by the sudden appearance of an very ill but very much alive Clarice Ferguson! Where has she been all this time? And what -- or who -- is she so afraid of? The answers may prove very, very bad...not only for GenX but for the X-Men as well...

Blue Skies
By Fancy Catz

The difference from peace to bloody civil war can be as obvious as the difference between blue skies and a winter storm...but if you're not watching for it, the transition can be just as subtle, as a newly graduated college student finds when she takes the time to look.

Blue Starfish
By Perri Smith
A tale of the Common People

When confronted with the choice of helping an injured mutant or leaving him to die, a young rookie cop on his first beat is forced to learn that just because his partner is more experienced does NOT mean that he's perfect...or right.

Perri Sez:
"Um, I still have no idea what inspired this. I almost left off the last part of the story, but couldn't bring myself *not* to believe."

Boil A Lot Of Water, Bub!
The sequel to The Xavier Bunch
By Denise Keppel & Krista Schneidereit

Er...the title says it all, doesn't it? Thanks to sufficient pressure applied to young Franklin, the X-Men and company have been rescued from the insipid world of the Brady Bunch. Unfortunately, a few things transferred over in the process. Like the fact that half of the X-Women are now pregnant!

Boxed Lunch
The sequel to Auld Lang Syne
By Denise Keppel
Part of the Girl Talk series

The home of Jubilee's friend Ariel has become almost a second haunt of the kids from GenX when they want to get away from the pressures of being "mutant students" for a while. Angelo, in particular, finds that Ariel's older sister Celeste is a good shoulder to lean on...and over a very special homemade lunch ordered all the way from his mother's own restaurant in Los Angeles, he finally confides what drove him away from the barrio in the first place...

Boys' Night Out
By Marc Iturriaga

Woo! An X-Factor story! Sorry, 'scuse me, but these are really rare. :) Those daring government muties -- well, the menfolk anyhow -- take an example from the circa-Australia X-Men and head out for a simple, relaxing, preferably drunken night on the town. Unfortunately, the previous mebership of Freedom Force picks the same night to hit the same bar...and as if matters weren't volatile enough already, Deadpool's also up to no good in the area!

Breezes
By Lori McDonald

How the heck is Logan supposed to find inner peace when the entire team is swinging out of emotional balance? A short, surrealistic mood piece.

Lori Sez:
"This story was actually inspired by the last chapter of 'Out of Control,' when Lila could hear music coming out of one of the windows of the mansion. The whole plot is built on that concept."

The Bucket Song
By Jaelle & Orla

A funny filk set to the tune of "There's A Hole In The Bucket." THIS version's about that amnesiac Austrian fella who used to WEAR a bucket and the stripe-haired belle who loves him...she thinks.

Bump In The Night
By Kielle
A tale of the Common People

A child's dismal birthday party is salvaged by a burst of mutant powers...but it's not what you think.

Kelly Sez:
"I first had the idea of a little girl admitting that she's a mutant at a slumber-party truth-or-dare game. It somehow mutated (pun intended) into this instead. 'Bump' is also my subtle way of trying to reverse the growing tendency to use the Common People idea as simple wish fulfilment: living vicariously through a female avatar with a fantastical new mutant power. I absolutely refuse to follow either that path or the other stereotypical extreme, the one-dimensional 'dirty rotten Friends Of Humanity' yarn. I'm not targeting any one story (most of them are quite good), it's just the general trend..."

Burning Futures & Meltdown: Finder Of Lost Souls
By various on RACMX

An impromptu round-robin detailing a fictional X-series which of course quickly expands out of control into crossovers, annuals, limited series, trade paperbacks, and general hilarious Marvel ludicriousness.

Buses
By Kerrin Watter

Butt Monkey Of Love
The sequel to Revenge Of The X-Women
By Ms. Marvel

A hormonal fanboy makes the mistake of slamming Ms. Marvel (the writer, not the character) and the vengeful X-Women tear his poorly written drivel to pieces. Well deserved indeed.

.-= C =-.

Caldecott
By Alexandra Nigro

The story of Cody and Rogue and what really happened that fateful day on the banks of the Mississippi so long ago...including the reason why the little stripe-haired hellion was wearing such a pretty dress at the time.

Alexandra Sez:
"My first X-Men fan-fiction. I was actually a little nervous about how this one would be received -- considering I was taking my continuity from X-Men Unlimited #4! Looking back, there's so much I want to change, but "first tries" make a good marker for improvement."

Can't Save Him
By Denise Keppel
Part of the Girl Talk series

When Meggan can no longer bear Brian's plunge back into his old obsessive drinking habits, she sums up the courage to call up the one person who can give her the strength to stand up to him: his sister Betsy "Psylocke" Braddock.

Catwalk
By Kristina Sennvik

A suave yet sadistic fashion designer finally butts heads with one up-and-coming model whom he can neither intimidate nor deceive. And oh, if he has his way, how the lovely Miss Elizabeth Braddock will pay for defying him... Adults only -- M/F nonconsensual, violence, adult themes.

At first things go well as she makes a new friend and sets her romantic sights on the brilliant Dr. McCoy. Then her earlier misgivings return to haunt her when she discovers that not all is as it seems in the close-knit "family" in the X-Mansion...

By David J. Warner
Part #7 of the Mutants Of Bucktown arc

The MOB storyline winds up into overdrive in a climactic conclusion to the series which does a much better job of wrapping up that messy Onslaught business than Marvel itself, in the humble opinion of this indexer. It's up to AOA refugees Blink, Nate Grey, and Manchild to turn the tide against Onslaught, in a desperate struggle to prevent the creation of a world much like the one the three youths barely managed to escape from...and, perhaps, to lay the foundation for a far better one than that which gave birth to the X-Men and the Reclamation Squad.

Children Yet Unborn
By Corina Borsuk

Are the Summers finally expecting a baby? Could be. But a look into the thought processes of the prospective parents reveals that Jean and Scott have drastically different viewpoints on the ramifications of bringing a child into their complicated world...and although nothing is truly said aloud, sometimes it's the little things that can drive a wedge between partners.

Choices
By Darqstar

Young Remy LeBeau's first manifestation as a mutant creates nothing but problems...so he hits the road to free his family of his "curse." Luckily, he falls in with a most unusual mother-&-daughter pair who are willing to take in a skinny, secretive Cajun kid. Can he then make the choice to leave them...? Contains a scene for adults only -- M/F consensual.

Darqstar Sez:
"A story that covers many Firsts for me. My first X-Men story. The first time I *ever* tried to write a sex scene. Up until then, every time I had to deal with sex in a story, I closed the bedroom door and did a fade out. I guess there was always this fear of 'What if my MOTHER found out I was writing this stuff?'

"Surprisingly enough, the sex scene was much easier to write than I thought it would be. I guess when you have fuel like Gambit to work with, the ideas just...flow."

The Christmas Gambit
By Monte Pescador

A sweet "family" Christmas at the X-Mansion becomes decidedly strange for Remy LeBeau when an elf with a sleigh drops by to offer him the chance to make up for his younger ways: to give instead of take. Little does Gambit suspect just WHAT he's going to be giving back to the various young ladies he's loved and left over the years...or how many bruises he's going to encur in the process!

The Chuck vs Chuck Pre-Game Show
By Sigma7

Charles "Professor X" Xavier or Onslaught? Well, Onslaught IS a lot bigger, and he's got magnetic powers, and nifty armor, and bad breath, and operational legs...but when it comes down to your pre-show best bet, only Dr. Moo knows for sure. If he can keep the studio together long enough to deliver a coherent report, of course. With guest stars and a most Sinister guest co-host.

Sigma Sez:
"Inspiration for this lies in the hands of Jeremy Bottroff, whose Late Show series (available on GEnie, I think) really did everything this *tries* to do, and does it *well.* The Sasquatch cameo was planned well before his appearance in Gen-X. This is the first story that *anticipates* being followed up on."

Circle In The Sand
By Perri Smith

Friendship once again goes full circle for Kitty Pryde when she travels back to Westchester County to be reunited with a time-lost friend. Only this time, Rachel Summers is a newborn infant with her entire uncertain future ahead of her. Maintaining a relationship can be decidedly strange when your life is riddled with time-travellers...

Cold Relations
By Montage

When Emma Frost runs afoul of the new Hellfire Club, Sean Cassidy calls in the big guns from Westchester to rescue her and bring her safely home. But when Iceman falls into the same trap and his teammates are forced to regroup and wait for reinforcements, Bobby finds himself stuck in a far more delicate situation than the obvious predicament: now he'll have to deal with his confusing new feelings for the enigmatic White Queen...in person.

Comedy Of Eros
By Da Juice

What if the paths of Kurt Wagner and the Maximoff twins crossed in Eastern Europe during their respective gypsy/circus days? What if they ran afoul of Dr. Doom and became ensnared in his political games with Nick Fury and the Black Widow? And what if the lovely Wanda managed to get into the pants of just about every single other character in the story? NOT your average "what if," then! For adults only -- M/F & F/F consensual.

The Coming
By Jason "SinSin" Deshayes

"Psylance" is a teenager still adjusting to the emergence of his mutant powers when he crosses paths with Generation X at the local mall -- a chance encounter which drags him straight into a confrontation with Sinister and Emplate! Will GenX have to protect this new mutant from their worst enemies...or will Psylance turn the tables and save the team instead?

Courses
The sequel to Paladin
By Fancy Catz
Part #4 of the Selana set

Jennifer is gone and Logan's wife Selana is back safe and sound, but neither she nor life at the X-Mansion is "back to normal." Internal tensions are beginning to pull the team apart; even the Summers are having problems, as Jean's new discontentment grows and she lays plans to live in Salem Center -- if need be, without her stubborn husband. She's not the only one considering for a life away from the mansion, either. How can the X-Men stand together against the world if they can't even stand together?

Cracked
By Bree
A tale of the Common People

Being locked up for misusing a mutant gift may be "hell on earth," but is it better than running dangerously rampant out in the real world? Look through a young pyrokinetic's eyes and judge for yourself.

Crossings
By Hyong Kim
A DC/Marvel crossover

Batman and Wolverine just seem fated to get in each others' way, don't they? What appears to be a simple case of the feral Canadian X-Man going off on a rampage through Gotham City turns out to be a different story entirely when Robin discovers that Logan's sidekick Jubilee has fallen into the hands of Batman's archenemy... Has a clever surprise ending that I refuse to give away. :)

Daddy's Little Fallen Angel
By Nimue Morin (under the name "Magical Mouse")

Meet best friends Angel Fletcher and Adam DuFeus, both mutants, she of the red-headed 'tude and he of the cheerfully fake Cajun accent. Restless Fletch is getting bloody sick of her boring whitebread life...until the Shadow King attempts to add her to his collection, her rich father joins the FOH, and she's stuck hiding out with Generation X watching Adam make goo-goo eyes at Paige Guthrie!

Nimue Sez:
"'Daddy's Little Fallen Angel' is the only real fan-fiction I've done, except for 'Shadow Walker.' Some people seem to like that one; every time *I* read it, I cringe. Tastes differ. At any rate, most of my writing is really dark, but not DLFA. I was writing it in the summer before I entered high skule; I came to the local computer lab every day, 'cause I had almost no friends I could spend a lot of time with. I wrote it, and then the next year in high skule I joined a roleplaying club and the speech team (among other things), got suspended, made a lot of friends -- blossomed as a person, one might say. ;) Often, when my friend Nick runs one of his famous live-action campaigns, and everyone else plays people like Wolverine, the Punisher, etc., I play Fletch. They always look at me funny. :) "

Dancing With The Birds
By Lori McDonald

Psylocke discovers one fine afternoon that, just perhaps, Archangel's wings are not quite as malevolent as they seem.

Lori Sez:
"I've always wondered why I wrote this story, since I like neither Archangel nor Psylocke. Maybe it was just my attempt to make them more likable."

The Dark Chamber Saga
By the White Queen

The peace and quiet of Generation X's orderly evacuation to Emma Frost's Ontario estate is shattered by the arrival of a dying Moira MacTaggart. In the confusion, M's increasingly strange behavior goes unconfronted, and one of the GenX teens may well pay for this lapse in vigilance with her life. Has Chamber lost control...or was he shoved over the edge by one of his own teammates...?

Darker Over Time
The sequel to Bathroom Symphony
By Lori McDonald

Part #4 of Music In The Key Of X

Listening to children's jumprope rhymes takes Bishop back to his own childhood with Shard, and he ponders on how such simple, beautiful little things were warped to fit his own dark future. He's in for a shock -- sometimes it works the other way around, too.

Darkness Falls
By Allen Sumner
An X-Men/Crow crossover

Remy and Rogue are back in New Orleans for Mardi Gras but they aren't the strangest thing in town, not by a long shot. There's a dead woman on the streets bent upon tracking down the men who slaughtered her and her entire family out in the bayou, and she will not tolerate any opposition...not even from Our Heroes. Recommended for mature readers.

NOTE: This storyline is continued in Inner Demons.

Darkness Within Me
By Kerrin Watter

Pete Wisdom has led a somewhat unsavory life, and now he takes some time to reflect upon matters and wonder if Kitty will accept him. That, however, is Kitty's decision to make...and she's already made it.

Dark Reflections
By Luba Kmetyk

Technically a part of the "Idylls Of the Cat" series but actually a wide side-step into "What If"...this is certainly NO idyll for this cat. What if Pete Wisdom was, indeed, loyal to Black Air? What is Black Air and the Hellfire Club WON? Excaliber is captured and handed over into slavery at the hands of the victors. Now Wisdom's assignment is to break Kitty Pryde to serve the cause...but when the thick-skinned Brit begins to actually care about his young American pet, has he doomed both of them to fates worse than death? Guest-starring Pete's good mate John Constantine & co. Adults only for M/F (mostly nonconsensual) and torture.

NOTE: If you appreciated this tale, you may also wish to look up the even darker unofficial sequel The Appendix by Dr. Benway.

Dark Wild Places
By Kielle
A tale of the Common People

It's easy enough to SAY that you're an open-minded, politically-correct woman of the nineties. The true test of character is, could you maintain that attitude if your precious only child brought home a playmate who was One Of Them...?

Kelly Sez:
"Boy, I just can't resist poking at hypocrisy, can I? :) In all seriousness, I really do believe that every single one of us harbors prejudices and biases, whether we like it or not. It's not something we like to admit, even to ourselves, but there it is. No one's perfect. But if you can acknowledge and purposely overcome those nasty little impulses when they rear their ugly heads, THEN you're on the right track."

The Date
By Kielle

Set back during the early days of the second incarnation of X-Factor. Jamie Madrox is laying out some sneaky plans to pep up Guido's love life, because man o man has he got the PERFECT lady lined up for the big giy via his old Fantastic Four connections...

Kelly Sez:
"I utterly love Peter David's Strong Guy. I absolutely adore John Byrne's She-Hulk. It HAD to happen. 'Nuff said."

Daughter Of The Sun
By Dawn L. Bobby

Set in the AOA. Creed and Company run across a mysterious group of saboteurs and vigilantes who call themselves the Exiles. Why does Creed think he knows who their leader, Taboo, might be? And why would it be absolutely impossible that she is who he thinks she is?

NOTE: Summary generously donated by the author.

Dawn Sez:
"'Daughter Of The Sun' (affectionately called DOTS between Kat and me) is the story of Taboo, a masked and mysterious teleporter, who leads a group of saboteurs. Sabretooth thinks he knows who she is, but she couldn't =possibly= be that person...could she? (Shyeah, right! This is the MARVEL Universe, remember?) This is an epic vast in scope and action-packed once it gets rolling, and it will probably change the entire thrust of the AoA by its end. I'll try to stay in continuity as much as possible, but there are large breaks from what "really" happened. And don't expect a 'soft and cuddly' story -- I can think of at least one decapitation that's happened already..."

Dawn's Last Threnody
By Tapestry

In the AOA, Dawn Embers of "First Contact" is a survivor of the cullings and a member of Generation Next, undergoing grueling training with the other kids. She'll need every trick she's learned when she's captured for McCoy's labs, and not just to save her own hide; if she and her soulmate Glenn can escape, they may be the last hope for her teammates.

NOTE: If you like this story and these characters, you will also enjoy First Contact.

Tapestry Sez:
"This story was inspired by Bum's 'Dex's Story' and because I didn't particularly like the ending to Generation Next -- I 'fixed' it myself. Because I was quite fond of Threnody by the end of DLT (and because of the amount of people clamoring for her return, or at least more information about her) I merged her with the original character in 'The Askani Wars,' where she now lives on as the fiercer, more experienced part of Dawn's psyche."

Dear Ann Landers
By Me (Monet) & Link

A set of notes written by famous mutants and supposedly answered by Ann Landers of advice-column fame. Even though THESE letters are about situations ranging from incredible to impossible, "Ms. Landers" rises coolly to the challenge as ever.

Me Sez:
"One day while I was hanging out at Andy's X-Men BB there was a discussion on how all of Marvel's characters got into one preposterous situation or another. I thought that if any X-Person could write to dear ol' Ann that she'd have a heart attack, and I started writing with Link. As Link writes her, it seems Ann's warm and sometimes cheesy opinions have no limits."

Link Sez:
"It happened by accident on Andy's X-Men BulletinBoard. Me posted a letter to Ann Landers. I looked at it and thought 'why not?' and I replied as Ann Landers. Me looked at it and I guess she liked my answer because she posted another letter. Unfortunately, the server went down and I almost missed the second letter. I did manage to read it and replied again. Well, Me then asked if I wanted to work together on this and if I wouldn't mind if she posted it on the newsgroup. I said it would be fine and that was my appearance on the newsgroup.

"I know I answered more than ten letters as Ann Landers from other people besides Me. Some were very interesting. Apollo wrote letters from Domino, Sinister, Apocalyse, and Onslaught. Cantbe wrote letters from Xavier and Toad. There was even one from Cable dealing with his "family" problem. Too bad they are lost forever, but I sure wouldn't forget them."

Dear Child
By Deinonychus

Luna's childish night terrors arouse both a paternal instinct and a fond boyhood memory in the last X-Man you'd ever expect it from...

Dear Valentine
By Corina Borsuk

Rogue finally decides that she truly does love Gambit, but her carefully laid plans to surprise him with a Valentine picnic and a goodnight kiss (thanks to Joseph's Z'nox thingie) are destroyed when the Cajun abruptly leaves her in the lurch. As it turns out, he has a Valentine gift for her in mind: an amazing letter and the choice to accept him or to turn him away for once and for all.

Der Nussknacker (or What The Hell's A Sugar Plum?)
By Twist

What the hells IS a sugar plum? The question is enough to send Monet off into another one of her "spells." The Christmas tales being spun at the Massachusetts Academy are enough to put a bored Jubilee out of commission, too, and as she falls asleep she finds herself faced with a horde of giant rats with nothing but a faithful nutcracker and Emma's spike heels...

Twist Sez:
"Der Nussknacker: What is a sugar plum? WHAT IS A SUGAR PLUM? So far, no one has any idea. So if you do, and you tell me, you get bonus Cool Points. Oh, and in case you're wondering, Der Nussknacker ist Deutsch fur "The Nutcracker." German is such a fun language!"

Destiny's Gift
By Cami L. Benham

A short sweet story exploring the friendship between step-siblings Kurt Wagner and Rogue, flashing back to how it all began with Destiny, Kitty, and a smashed birthday cake. A real nostalgia trip for you readers who miss the "good ol' days" when Rogue had just joined the X-Men.

Devil's Due
By Laersyn

The X-Men fight the Marauders. The Marauders lose. That's how it's always been...but no longer, for at last the assassins' long-term plan bears fruit and the tide turns in favor of the darkness. Not every story has a happy ending, and sometimes evil does triumph over good... Recommended adults-only for violence and sexual innuendos.

Laersyn Sez:
"This is what happens when people make me eat sushi. Bad things to good people."

Dex's Story I & II
By bum (PageGuthrE)

Dex is part of AOA's Generation Next. So why didn't we see her in the comics? Because this tale takes place before the four-comic set, and she got herself into a wee bit of trouble before that...

NOTE: If you are curious about Dex's fate in the "real" timeline, CFAN recommends that you pick up Truckstop, a tale of the Common People.

Paige Sez:
"Version 1 -- I had this dream during the AoA that I was there and all. The next day during my study hall (I was in high school) I jotted down the story on paper and later translated it to type using an IBM XT. I originally posted it once thinking nobody would like it but apparently people liked the concept of explaining many ends of the Gen Next Group, like why they didn't want to save all the humans, why Blink said 'She should have been with them'...all sorts of little things that in my mind I tied into this story.

"Version 2 -- It was summer of '96; I was back through college and for the first time in almost a year I looked at my old work and decided to re-write 'Dex's Story.' So I did. Somewhat same plot but different events."

Dialogue
By J.L. "Jelpy" Puckett

There's a silver (well, okay, maybe tin) lining to being held captive by the FOH -- it gives Jubilee and Emma Frost time to talk, really talk, for the first time.

Do Not Go Gentle
The sequel to The Gift
By Lori McDonald

Part #3 of the Experiment #713 set

His worst nightmare has come true, and more: Sinister has returned for him, and captured the woman he loves in the process. Now Experiment #713 faces the hardest choice of his life: to free the other prisoners and carry her to safety...or to succumb to his terror and make a lone break for freedom that may forever scar him...

NOTE: This story has two potential endings. Ending A is concluded in Heart's Desire -- Ending B is continued in Happy Endings.

Don't Feed Her After Midnight!
The sequel to A Match Made...?
By Jaelle & Orla

Gambit gleefully sabotages Joseph's plans for a nice date by dropping the innocent recommendation that he take Rogue out to an ice cream parlor. Is the world ready for Rogue on a Chocolate Rush From Hell? Lord knows poor Joseph isn't!

Jaelle Sez:
"Orla and I are both chocaholics, so it made sense to us that Rogue would be too. A story written about chocolate, by writers under the influence of chocolate. Poor Joseph. I'm sure normal dates aren't this bad."

Don't Let Her Play With Dolls
By Gladys Hammonds

Eight-year-old Princess Amina Greene's mother is practically in hysterics over the fact that her darling child is -- shudder -- a mutant, but Professor Xavier finds it difficult to ferret out the exact details of this "horrible curse" except that the child is no longer allowed to play with dolls of any kind. What is Amy's secret? When the truth is finally revealed, it seems simple, even charmingly cute, but there's more to this little girl's power than anyone suspects until it's too late...

DoubleTeam
The sequel to Friday Night
By David J. Warner
A Generation X/Gen 13 crossover
Part #3 of the Mutants Of Bucktown saga

To avenge himself upon Xavier through the Professor's youngest students, Exodus kidnaps the team's mentor in order to lure the teens to their doom. It seems that poor confused Paris has mixed up his "Gens," however: his captive is John Lynch of Gen 13! Generation X and Gen 13 join forces to retrieve the gen-active teamleader and the kids soon wind up way over their heads, unwittingly setting the stage for a surprise family reunion for GenX-neophyte Charles "Manchild" Lehnsherr...

Drawn To The Lodestone Rock
By Dandelion

Lost, alone, and bereft of his memories, Eric Lehnsherr arrives at the X-Mansion in search of...what? Even he isn't sure -- and Charles Xavier decides to make the decision for him. However, the X-Men's quest to mold the former Magneto into a model member of the hero community is hobbled by two obstacles: Eric's own strength of character...and, surprisingly, one Remy LeBeau.

NOTE: This story is continued in A Companion Picture.

Dande Sez:
"When I heard that Magneto was dropping to the earth after the fall of Avalon I couldn't wait. Then I heard all of those nasty vicious rumors about him reuniting with Rogue and I just couldn't stand the thought. So I took matters into my own hands.

"Charles had steadily been written as being more and more dictator-like in regards to the Dream and what he was willing to do about it. I considered his previous actions against Magneto would set him up to go a little too far once he got his hands on the man again. Magneto seems to be the one thing he gets out of control over.

"Remy. What can I tell you other than I love the character, feel he's been dumbed down dramatically recently, and have long felt that there is WAY more to this guy than anyone can even begin to guess at?

"Remy & Magnus. The Age of Apocalypse series set up the fact that these two were best friends and I never, ever saw it! I was so bitter! And these guys have a lot in common, it seemed utterly and completely natural that they'd be drawn to each other as companions. Which set up the all encompassing saga that is A Companion Picture.

"The infamous Nun Joke is from Bloom County. :D"

Dream Games
By bum (PageGuthrE)

Generation X falls into the hands of a mad scientist. Soon the lines between reality and nightmare become so blurred that even the reader won't know which way is up by the time this wild ride is over...

Paige Sez:
"My first fanfic...basically, it was my first attempt ever to write outside of stuff for friends based on the soap opera that was our life. It was about a teleporting doctor who was obsessed with brain waves and manipulation of dreams... This was like back when I only had issues 1-4 to rely on, so it's a old story kids."

The Duet
By Deinonychus

As one X-Woman cuts loose and lets herself sing along with one of her favorite songs, she's pleasantly surprised to be joined by a beautiful baritone harmony from the roof, drifting through her open window...

The Eight-Character Valentine Relay
By Twist

This Valentine's Day, Bobby Drake thought that it would be funny to write up an anonymous romantic letter and give it to some random x-person just to see what might happen. What he didn't count on was setting off a chain of miscommunications which results in tangling half of the residents of the Xavier Institute up in a bizarre sitcom-esque web of romantic misunderstandings!

Twist Sez:
"Written at the last minute (as in at 11:00 the night of Valentine's Day), I wasn't sure how well this one came out. It didn't have much of a plot beyond the first description of Cupid, until I remembered a past sitcom I used to watch. So, thanks to 'Full House,' I have a Valentine story to add to my list."

Elle Reve Du Toucher De Son Amour
By Benjamin Wick

Rogue and Gambit finally get together in this sensuous short story...or do they? For adults only -- M/F consensual.

Elseworlds: A Stripe Of A Different Color
By Alexandra Nigro

Isn't "Elseworlds" a DC concept? Yes...but that doesn't mean that the freedom of the Elseworlds concept can't be applied to other genres. Alexandra chooses a handful of popular X-mutants, takes away their powers, and places them against the setting of California of the 1930s to create a strong character-driven tale of one Sabine Roberts, a nice southern girl trapped in a dying marriage to her childhood sweetheart Cody. Her grey, dead-end life begins to change only when she crosses paths with the decadent starlet Raven Darkholme and a certain Cajun-accented vagabond, but whether this change is for the better remains to be seen...

Alexandra Sez:
"What was intended as a light Rogue/Remy romance ended up as a serious Elseworlds-like examination of the essentials of Rogue's character. Keeping with the 'Elseworlds' theme, I chose Rogue's attraction to (and eventual rejection of) Raven Darkholme as the 'central' theme to her character. Remy actually ended up as a supporting character, and my own little way of showing how he's a great vehicle for Rogue to dare for her dreaMs. Any resemblance to Bonnie & Clyde was purely intentional!"

eMissaries
By Babymacc

Gateway sends M and Banshee across the dimensions to a New York only slightly removed from our own to save a boy who bears a striking resemblance to M herself. Sheer coincidence or another St. Croix secret...? You bet.

Empath: From Russia With Love
By Samy Merchi

A flashback to the days of the New Mutants and a thoughtful trip inside the head of the great manipulator himself: Manuel Alfonso Rodrigo de la Rocha, otherwise known as "Empath" for obvious reasons. Another night, another party, but this time there's something new to shake the arrogant Hellion's carefully constructed confidence: a subtle cat-and-mouse game with the only woman who can not only resist his charms but laugh in his face while she's at it. Illyana Rasputin.

Enigma
By Kerrin Watter

Summary Under Construction

Kerrin Sez:
"My first foray into the fan-fiction world, this story was influnced by 'The Psycho Kid.' It was written to Vangelis' Bladerunner soundtrack, and was the release of all my post-exam stress. I made the mistake of letting some of my friends read this, and was subsequently psycho-analysed for a month afterwards. But just to set the record straight, if you want to believe I sing in a nightclub, can fly and am a demi-god, I'm not going to stop you."

Evisceration, or The Senselessness Of It All
By Kristina Sennvik

For all those who thought that Uncanny X-Men #327 glossed too quickly over what happened when Psylocke faced down Sabretooth... Thanks to Tabitha's burst of temper, the killer is finally free; the only X-Man available to stop him is Betsy Braddock, and don't think Creed's forgotten what happened the last time they tangled. This time, there's going to be bloodshed.

Exodus
By Alexandra Nigro

With both the mansion and their reputation in ruins in the wake of Onslaught, the X-Men must leave their home in a ragtag convoy of cars and motorcycles. On top of that, there's that brewing situation between Gambit and Joseph...made worse by the fact that the Master Of Magnetism gets to ride shotgun with Rogue!

NOTE: This story is continued in Heartland.

Alexandra Sez:
"It was such a perfect plot opportunity that I can't believe Marvel didn't take it. There are so many critical conversations that need to be had between characters that always seem to get lost in crossovers and "major events." What I wanted was to show how the plot could be advanced without sacrificing character development and how you can mix humor and angst in balance. I also wanted to find a way around the stupid 'Joseph and Remy have a fistfight over Rogue' cliche. I'd love to see Rogue and Gambit back together, but realistically neither one is ready."

Explosive Relations
By Alexandra Nigro

It's the Age Of Apocalypse, a few years before the comic series. A hungry, orphaned Cajun thief joins the X-Men out of necessity, but only time and battle will prove if his new connections have forged true.

Alexandra Sez:
"I have absolutely no patience. The Powers That Be actually expected me to wait four months to see how X-Men Chronicles would turn out between #1 and #2. It's a little-known fact that most of my ideas spring from my need for some kind of resolution. The feedback I got from this story forced me to re-evaluate the way I write dialogue -- and to face the challenge of *showing* not *telling*."

Fading Embers
By Tapestry
An alternate timeline to the Dawn series

When the school is infiltrated -- unsuccessfully -- by the newest member of the Marauders, Generation X and their teachers are faced with a most difficult ethical choice indeed, because Ember isn't exactly your typical Marauder. She was obviously forced by Sinister to become what she is now. She's barely the kids' own age. And she's pregnant. Whatever the decision, eventually her teammates are going to come hunting her...

Failings

Filling In The Gaps
By Ian Philip "Pinta Scrumpy" Foster

A vicious civil war still rages through Genosha: mutates and mutants against humans, with the sole exception of the rebel coalition led by Philip Moreau and Jenny Ransome. However, things are looking pretty bad for our heroes: when a mission goes sour, one of the coalition's essential co-leaders is "tamed" and captured with the help of a mysterious new device in the hands of the government. And, as innocent British mutant Alison "Magma" Crestmere is about to discover -- two continents away! -- the Genoshan government has wide-ranging plans for this new weapon...

Firefight
By Ian Philip "Pinta Scrumpy" Foster
A tale of the Common People

Alan "Blackburn" Lewis isn't a superhero -- he's a REAL hero, a firefighter who uses his inborn mutant resistance to flame to save lives on a day-to-day basis. And this time, though he doesn't know it, he's rescued someone truly...unique.

Phil Sez:
"This is the result of watching far too many episodes of 'London's Burning,' and a general disatisfaction with the lack of mutants in the x-books who are a) pretty much accepted for who they are, or b) realistic English blokes."

First Contact
By Tapestry

Thanks to her painfully manifesting psionic ability, Dawn Embers discovers that her boarding school is a most sinister place indeed. With the help of her good friend Glenn Keaton she escapes to Generation X, in search of both a haven and control over her powers. It's apparent that she's going to need the help when in her moment of need she comes face-to-face with someone from the past. A DEAD someone.

NOTE: If you like this story and these characters, you will also enjoy Dawn's Last Threnody.

Tapestry Sez:
"Unlike most stories, the titles of the two sequels for 'First Contact' sprang to mind as soon as I began the project. When a particularly vivid scene came to mind (often several chapters or even sequels ahead of the part I was working on) I drew it out on paper so I would remember it. If you don't believe me, look at my school notebook."

Fog In The Forest
By Mitchell Kelly & Norma Graham

A friendly meeting and a game of tag in the Westchester woods becomes something far more...satisfying...for Logan and Ororo. Adults ONLY -- M/F.

Mitch Sez:
"Fog In The Forest started simply as a response to the observation that Logan hadn't had much action of that sort recently! So Norma and I considered who he might have a 'scene' with. We quickly discounted Jubilee, Jean, and Psylocke, for a variety of reasons, but Storm somehow stood out. We could see certain similarities between the two of them. The strength of the characters, their self-possessed nature, the raw power of the wild in both of them. And it sort of developed from there! Norma, sadly has had to cancel her e-mail account for a number of unfortunate reasons, so there is not much chance of there being more stuff like that."

Following Through
By GLAMbeau

As we all know, Iceman doesn't have a very high opinion of Gambit. However, what if part of that animosity was due to repressed sexual attraction? Yep, you heard me right. And what with Bobby and Remy winding up trapped in a hotel room together for a long weekend, the "repressed" part might wear a little thin... Recommended for mature minds due to mature themes.

Forbidden Love
By Chris Delaney

Joseph's amnesiac nightmares become worse, and in a Danger Room session the old Magneto flares forth for a terrifying instant. Alarmed that the X-Men might be harboring a timebomb, Jean Grey-Summers convinces Joseph to allow her into his head to finish Xavier's work and free him from his evil past...but once there she discovers that the "Magneto" she set forth to destroy is not the monster she'd always imagined. If Joseph is allowed access to a lifetime of harsh memories, will he be a new man -- or a megalomaniac?

For The Love Of A Goddess
By Gladys Hammonds

A utopian far future created, molded, and sustained by a beautiful legend may be either destroyed or renewed when a young worshipper dares to ask for the truth about the near-mythical Lovers: the Windrider and the Maker.

Fortis Et Liber
By Me (Monet)

The most interesting Penance story on the net, IMHO. A look at the life and trials of the girl who would survive both war and Emplate's tyranny to become Penance...from the point of view of her twin sister.

Me Sez:
"Okay, how many people are sick of Marvel never explaining anything? C'mon, raise those hands. Well, I was more than a little fed up and needed to write my own explanation."

For The Queen
By Lori McDonald

Written to follow up on the Marvel mini-series "Brood: Day Of Wrath." However, can she survive in a hostile world when her own self-preservation instincts are at war with her rebel Queen's paramount order: "Thou Shalt Not Kill"...? Recommended for adults only due to strong violence.

Lori Sez:
"After I read Marvel's Brood miniseries, I just had to write this one. It was an excellent storyline. Besides, I wanted to experiment with graphic violence, which is something I don't really feel I can do with the Gestalt Arc."

Friendships Past
By Kerrin Watter

Summary Under Construction

Kerrin Sez:
"Jasmine is one of those things that fills me with complete happiness. It is exquisite but short-lived, and nothing makes me happier than the heady fragrance of jasmine sitting heavy on the air on a warm spring night... What does this have to do with my story summary? Not much. Except for the fact that when this story was written (around Jan 1996), the jasmine was blooming again due to a slight change in the summer weather...hence the jasmine references."

NOTE: This storyline is continued in Courses.

Terri Sez:
"When I write, I always start with the last line of the story as the conception point. Then I go back to the beginning and start the actual story, which usually writes itself. :-) "

Generation X vs. The Girl Scouts
By Mice

Summary Under Construction

Mice Sez:
"Generation X vs. The Girl Scouts came to me when I pondered that infamous question: If a Girl Scout is selling cookies, and you hit her with your car on your property (accidentally, of course)...would you get to keep the cookies? That, and I'm a ::shudder:: Camp Fire Girl. I turned this in to my English class as well, and read it out loud. And, since there was a majority of my classmates in there who were in my drama class, it almost got performed."

Generation X Vs The Visitors

When the "Visitors" arrive bearing gifts and peace, the students of the Massachusetts Academy are overjoyed to find themselves allowed to attend the human/Visitor synopsium on the west coast, compliments of Dr. McCoy and Dr. Xavier. Then, as anyone who watched the series knows, it all goes horribly wrong...and this time, your favorite pack of mutant teens are caught right in the middle of it!

Getting Away With It
By Lori McDonald
A tale of the Common People

Hey, being a mutant ain't so bad when you're young, carefree, and able to create instant graffiti with a wave of your hand!

Lori Sez:
"This was written in about ten minutes. Not for any particular reason. Now whenever I look at it, though, I think of that annoying little cartoon kid on the cookie commercials who's always changing the colors of things by touching them. I really hope that wasn't my inspiration. :) "

The X-Ladies vote themselves a day in town and an evening spent laying around playing cards, watching movies, and munching junk food...while the poor defenseless males of the species are bundled out with strict orders to do the shopping and all of the chores. Good Friend
By Denise Keppel

Who's to say that X-people don't have lives outside of the team? In this case, Jubilee must cope with the death of an old friend, a girl who was neither hero nor mutant and yet was truly special nonetheless.

Green Thoughts
By C.H. Baker
A tale of the Common People

Jennifer has a certain...knack...with greenery. When her brother and his unscrupulous friends get wind of it, they decide that it would be cool to convince the girl to focus her "attention" on more profitable plants than tomatoes...with truly horrifying results.

Caroline Sez:
"Actually, I kinda liked what David J. Warner used as a synopsis for this one, short but sweet: 'That stuff'll kill ya!' But if you want to put something more descriptive: The idea for this story actually came from a dream I had several years ago, and the original plotline I had in mind had nothing to do with mutants, but the Common People idea fit in pretty easily. I only had to change the reason for the 'evolution' of plant life. In the dream, a crackpot scientist had found a formula that excelerated development of plant cells, thereby causing them to evolve into what they would be millions of years in the future. Some kids stumbled on his lab, and, well, the rest is in the story..."

Grow Old Along With Me
By Kristina Sennvik

Picture, if you will, that Douglas "Cypher" Ramsey had survived to pursue the mutual attraction between himself and the elegant but far older Psylocke. Between marriage, a child, success, and retirement from the danger of the X-life, it looks like a fairytale happily-ever-after ending...or is it?

Happy Endings
The sequel to Ending B of Do Not Go Gentle
By Lori McDonald

Part #5 of the Experiment #713 set

If he's strong enough reach out and take it.

The Hard Way
By Perri Smith
Part#1 of the Delphi Set

Siryn is in the wrong place at the wrong time when an old enemy sends a pack of mutant mercenaries to grab Wolverine right out from under the noses of his teammates. Impossible, you say? Not when said mercs have been trained by Deadpool and his sister Jordan "Delphi" Raines. Things look pretty bleak for Terry and Logan; their only chance lies in the fact that neither Wade nor Jordie were told exactly what they had been hired into...and neither of the merc siblings are too thrilled with matters.

NOTE: This storyline is picked up again in No Man's Land.

Perri on the Delphi Set:
"Jordan Raines was born as I sat at my computer one night and just started to type. When I finished, I had 14 pages of story with a character who intrigued me (I still have not *used* those pages). Jordie is not me -- we are polar opposites in most ways. But the more I write her, the more I respect her -- I haven't decided yet if I like her."

Perri on the The Hard Way:
"I loved the second Deadpool limited series almost entirely because of the by-play between Deadpool and Siryn (also the reason I'm one of the lone Siryn fangirls). So, when I realized Deadpool was going to be in this story, Teresa became the logical fourth party. It turned into an...interesting experience for all concerned."

Hazard
By Perri Smith

Summary Under Construction

Perri Sez:
"In many ways, this story could qualify for The Common People; it actually started out very differently in my head and I had to struggle with it until I gave up, and let Shea and Chase do what they wanted to do, which was fight with each other. And I loved the chance to write She-Hulk!"

Heartland
By Alexandra Nigro

With the world turned against them, the X-Men opt to lie low for a while. This time, however, their plan is to hide in plain sight: in the American heartland itself, as simple small-town folk. Of course, you realize that this is doomed to failure, for, let's face it, no matter how hard they may try, the X-Men are anything but "simple" and it's only a matter of time before...

Heart's Desire
By Alara Rogers

Hell To Play
By Suzene Campos

He ain't about to! As angel turns aggressor and demon becomes protector, black and white rapidly become shades of gray...

Hindsight
By Night Angel

In a far-flung alternate future, a certain Southerner External survivor of today's mutant turmoil is mourned by another of his own kind. Sometimes immortality isn't all it's cracked up to be...and sometimes it doesn't last forever.

Hold On
By Perri Smith

Wolverine escaped from Genesis and the Dark Riders, but only at an immense cost. Now all his two proteges -- Kitty Pryde and Jubilation Lee -- can do is wait by his side and pray...and, perhaps, finally come to terms with the fact that they can BOTH hold a place in Logan's heart.

Perri Sez:
"Wolverine #100 was released soon after I lost a dear friend to cancer and spent a week watching my pet die of feline leukemia. Writing this story, like endlessly replaying the song, was catharsis, and got me through one of the worst times in my life."

Hope
By Cinnilla

Trapped by Bastion, all Jubilee has to hold on to during her dark hours of unconsciousness is the voice -- real or imagined -- of her mentor Logan. Brief, sweet, and (whether it was meant as such or not) a good companion piece to Processing by J.L. "Jelpy" Puckett.

The Hunt
By Kerrin Watter

Summary Under Construction

Kerrin Sez:
"Many moons ago when I wrote 'Friendships Past,' I ended it rather happily in my mind, but some people got annoyed that I'd let a character die. But that was the whole point, people! Some asked for sequels, and I was determined not to do it. But I had eight pages of text down in a new story which I liked (and many more that I didn't), and after arguing with myself for days, I joined the two ideas. This is not a sequel as such, but some old characters do emerge after a while."

HuntCat

Something's after Jubilation Lee. So what else is new? THIS is: a creature once human, subverted to an animal state and controlled by fear and pain. If it should ever be released to turn upon its master...

Illusions
By Kristina Sennvik
A tale of the Common People

Little Molly is very good at figuring out what people want and what they fear, and pressing their "buttons" to keep herself safe. Perhaps too safe.

Tina Sez:
"'Tender Buttons' would be a more appropriate title, but the story itself has nothing to do with Gertrude Stein. Although I think she might have appreciated it; there are very few commas."

Impending Muffin
By Marc Miturria, Mike Lavin, Chris Bird, Andrew Lavin, and Jane Griffin

The tongue-in-cheek round-robin saga of Muffin, Leech's kitten, from ultra-cute target of Sinister to techno-organic transgender clone to world-devouring force of nature and beyond!

In A Different Key
By Lynn Minmay

In a parallel universe just a few steps over from the "real" one, a very different power struggle has emerged between Charles Xavier's troops and Sinister's minions. This time, the lines between "good" and "evil" are murkier, and it might actually be Sinister who has the true best interests of the mutant race at heart. It's hard to tell when you're seeing the world through the eyes of his "children": Jubilation Lee and Nate Grey.

I, Nerd
By Me

It seems like every time some kid joins an X-team they're automatically accepted and befriended and admired for their Godly Powers (TM). (Shyeah...this is bitter sarcasm here, folks. ;) This, sadly, is not the case. This time there's no doubt about it: Generation X has been saddled with a genuine, bona-fide GEEK. The Academy -- and Ms. Frost's, er, endowments -- will never be the same...

Infinite
By Tyru Jones

She's lost and alone and doesn't know who she is. She hasn't done anything wrong that she knows of...so how does she keep winding up locked in one cell after another? Is she indeed this "Clarice Ferguson" her X-wearing rescuers seem to think she is? And why does the world around her seem to be the wrong one...? An AOA-related tale.

Infinite Loop
By Allegra

With a single hasty, horrible look into Doug Ramsey's grave, Kitty Pryde has finally laid her ghosts to rest...or has she? It seems that Shadowcat has a little more serious thinking to do on the subject before the haunting voices of Cypher and Magik finally fade from her mind.

NOTE: This storyline is picked up again in Ghost Of A Chance.

Inner Demons
The sequel to Darkness Falls
By Allen Sumner
An X-Men/Crow crossover

The weirdness in New Orleans is behind them, but Gambit and Rogue have been unwittingly marked by their brush with the supernatural, and their descent has only just begun. Callous mutant murderers are still roam the bayou. Remy finds himself suffering increasingly strange black-outs -- the grande dame of 'em all leaves him standing, covered with blood, amidst the gory remains of what was once a living human being. And when Rogue looks into the mirror, she sees a Crow... Recommended for mature readers.

In Search Of A Hero
By Kerrin Watter

Summary Under Construction

Kerrin Sez:
"The idea for this story occurred to me one day (as many do), and went along the simple lines of 'What would happen if you went to someone for help, and they wouldn't listen? If they were your only and last chance, what would you do?' The Tea Party's 'Fire In The Head' was my background music to this one -- the story isn't written around it, but I slotted it in to give you a feel for it."

Interview With A Killer Mutant
By Gladys Hammonds
A tale of the Common People

When a "chronicler" seeks the true story behind the depraved "Baby Killer," the first mutant sentenced to Death Row, he finds more of a story he bargained for in the placid, seemingly normal middle-aged woman...

It Can Happen
By Kielle

Mutant camps and Sentinels? Hardly. This is one author's spin on how the government might really deal with mutants...closing the net one quiet, bureaucratic step at a time...from the point-of-view of a "normal" mutant who could be you.

Kelly Sez:
"At the time, me and the guy I was dating wanted to name our potential first-born 'Ariel Jubilee.' Really. She got her chance here when it became apparant that there was not going to BE a marriage or any kids IRL. Come to think of it, this story lay nameless for FIVE YEARS...then I heard the most-excellent Yes song 'It Can Happen' during a workout and it just clicked."

It's All In Your Head
By Kristina Sennvik

Something is whispering to Psylocke...or is it simply her own cynicism, finally seeing her teammates as the shallow, irritating boors they truly are? Only time will tell...

Tina Sez:
"I hereby promise to pick up *all* of the danglers I have left hanging (dangling?) in this story. The story of Scott-Jean-Maddie, will be told in 'Summers At The Mansion,' Warren's dark broodings will be mercilessly dragged out in 'Total Eclipse,' Brian and Jamie's reactions will be interpreted in 'Love Means Never Having To Say You're Sorry,' Bishop's future story will be examined in 'The Tape,' Mojo will throw a fit in 'Bright Eyes,' and for all of you who *hated* the way Psy got herself gutted in UXM 327, get ready for 'Evisceration'!"

It's Always Darkest...
By Tapestry

Summary Under Construction

Tapestry Sez:
"All right, I'll admit, this was actually more of a prologue to greater plot twists then the more obvious one with D'Spayre and Emplate then an actual story. I used the 'omens' Dawn received in the first chapter to hint there would be a sequel early on, and, if you read the next story ('Ties Never Binding') the omens seem a little less obscure. As I've mentioned before, I usually like to draw my ideas out instead of simply recording them; the last scene of the last chapter was drawn in Social Studies sometime in February of '96, and also happens to be my first real sketched-out character design of Dawn."

It's A Mutant Invasion, Charlie Brown
By Twist

Good grief! Generation X and the Peanuts gang, out and about in the same mall, with the Phalanx on the loose...? Yep, you heard right. It happens!

Twist Sez:
"I have no idea where this came from, but the only reason why it has an end is because my dad's laptop froze up at the exact same time that I was writing it. In the midst of lots of words perhaps best not repeated, he shouted out something about a wishy-washy computer."

It's The Muppet Show: Starring The X-Men!
By N

Yes, the X-Men, tonight only on the Muppet Show! And as always, utter pandemonium breaks loose within seconds of the guests' arrival, culminating in a madly tipsy Jubilee, the sordid truth behind Gambit (and his accent), and a free-for-all full-scale war for the honor of a spurned Miss Piggy!

Jean And Me
By David J. Warner

As a boy, Joey Bilotti had a crush on a brilliant, beautiful, athletic, and best of all just-plain-NICE cheerleader who, in his case, was forced to transfer away under decidedly strange circumstances. Years later as a successful sportswriter, Joey finds to his sorrow that the girl he's still holding a torch for is no more. However, as he soon discovers, a tombstone means very little when the "girl" in question is otherwise known as "Marvel Girl."

Journey Into Darkness
By Kerrin Watter

Summary Under Construction

Kerrin Sez:
"When you toss ideas around for stories, they diverge, evolve, and can end up not resembling the original plot at all. This is why the beginnings of 'Enigma' and 'Friendships Past' are so similar, and the storylines quite different. The main point of the story was how Caitlyn entered the pristine, judgmental, black-and-white world of the X-Men, and brought her reality to them. Having to live with and accept both what you were and what you might become, and be able to move on from that was the essence of Caitlyn. But as I've said elsewhere, the music made me do it, and I blame/thank both Nick Cave and the Tea Party for helping my story become very, very dark."

Jubie's First Date
By MsMarvel

Just imagine how much worse that "being grilled by your date's dad while she's getting ready" thing would be if your date's "dad" was Wolverine...

MsMarvel Sez:
"This was loosely based on an SNL skit about a bonus university and my teenage sister."

Jubilation Phoenix
An unofficial sequel to Sunshine Lost by Khrys Constantine
By Lady Phoenix

As if the emotional trauma of her rape at Emplate's hands wasn't bad enough, Jubilee's body itself begins to change -- to grow and mature at an accelerated rate. Is it a new power, the Legacy Virus, or something else, something more...? Generation X rushes her to Dr. McCoy in search of the truth... Contains adult themes.

NOTE: This idea is also pursued in Phoenix Supreme.

Lady Phoenix Sez:
"This story came more from the fact that I got into a little hot water with a couple of other writers so I went with a new idea but same basic story. The idea that Jubilee would be 13 and a superior cosmic entity was a little hard to swallow, even for me! I mean, think about it: it would be like giving a 13-year-old the keys to a brand-new Porsche and unlimited credit cards and telling her not to do anything too rash. There was the dilemma, so some thought. I decided to give her an older, sexier body, throw in more than a couple of bad turns, and let it run from there."

Jubilee And The Care Bears
By Mice
A Mice Tail

The horror! Jubilee in the clutches of those dastardly...wait a minute, what am I saying? Care Bears aren't evil! Or at least that's what Jubilation thinks, until she finds out exactly where new Care Bears COME FROM...

Mice Sez:
"Jubilee And The Care Bears was actually a dream I had up at a camp where I'm a Junior Counselor, featuring myself. I had also brought my Grumpy Bear, and I put him under the pillow of the girl who I had told my dream about to and who thought I was crazy to have such a dream, and it remains a tradition at our camp.

"I also turned this story in for my high school's annual literary book, and it got rejected at first, because nobody in my Creative Writing class (who decided what got in and what didn't) liked it. *But*, the teacher, in the only good thing he's ever done for me (and he's good friends with my old English teacher who *loved* me), put it in anyways, and I got noticed by my peers in a positive light. (I also collect Care Bears, and one away from a complete set of the regular, medium-sized stuffed ones. =)"

Jubilee In The Mansion
By Sixmonkey

Jubilation Lee, forever bright and bubbly, not a care in the world, right? Wrong. If you believe that, you're making the same mistake many parents do...until they find the suicide note. Recommended for mature audiences for serious subject matter.

Rob Sez...well, actually Rob wants you to read this piece of mail he received:

"Well, I'll be straight with you (and hope you don't take offense). When I first read 'Jubilee In The Mansion' I didn't really know what to make of it. I mean, the writing was great but the subject just sorta stopped me cold; and initially I left the story thinking you were 100% wrong about what actions Jubes would take in that situation. However, your story got me thinking (actually I usually try to avoid that, and am often quite successful) and I started taking a closer look at Jubilee's behavior and personality. The word I would use to describe her emotions is "Intensity"; ie she feels very strongly about things, be it Wolverine, or Psylocke or Illyana's death. Usually we see her in a very upbeat, highly energetic, positive mood, but we have occasionally seen her swing towards what is very near despair on occassion. To add to that, she is an extremely impulsive person who doesn't think through to the consequences of her actions.

"Once I viewed her in light of what the negative effects of her personality and impulsiveness could bring about, I agreed that given the circumstances she may very well be caught in a downward spiral of depression and loneliness, plus despair at the thought of Wolverine abandoning her, and would indeed impulsively act on that pain in an effort stop it. In that respect, your story did something that very few stories (or people for that matter) have done: it made me examine a character more closely and come away with, -I believe-, a deeper understanding of them."

Keeping A Distance
By Lori McDonald
Part #1 of the Experiment #713 set

Sometimes "what ifs" don't turn out like you'd think... A raid on one of Sinister's cruel labs is too late and too little to save the wretched human specimens trapped within, with the exception of a single resourceful "experiment" who manages to stow away aboard the Blackbird. Weak, disoriented, and robbed of his powers by a locked inhibitor collar, he seeks refuge in the tunnels beneath the mansion; when the X-Men discover his existence, they patiently attempt to coax him out with food and friendship. Only one woman's company seems to reach the tortured mutant...

NOTE: This storyline is continued in The Gift.

Kentucky Field Trip
The sequel to LA Field Trip
By bum, Harli2quin, ChamberX1, & SynchX
Part #2 of the Field Trip Arc

After the field trip to the Los Angeles barrio, what could possibly go wrong on a trip down to Paige's native Kentucky? Plenty, of course. Los Angeles will seem like a picnic after the heartless Mr. Sinister gets his hands on Paige, Angelo, and Jono -- the three young GenXers' lives will literally never be the same again.

NOTE: This storyline is continued in St. Louis Field Trip.

Paige Sez:
"We liked writing so much together that this story almost demanded to be written. Both me and Harli feel strongly about certain issues and we'd both had what could be called a really crappy experience. So we wrote this story that takes an almost unbelievable tale and gives a human edge to it. This is by far my favorite story I've ever written and not to be an egomaniac but it's also one of my favorite fan fictions. We got thinking 'what if Sinister got better control over Paige's power than Paige had? And if he's so obsessed with making the perfect genetic specimen, why couldn't he take Paige and alter her a little bit so she'd spawn exactly what he wanted?'

"The whole concept of bringing ChamberX1 (Bryan) in to write was thought about for a long time, but we really wanted his input and Jonothon is to Bryan what Paige is to me. We both know the characters inside and out. So he joined in, not sure of where the story was going to lead. The extremely depressing scene with Chamber realizing he has no choice was written by me, and ironically it was right after watching 'Late Show With David Letterman' so I was far from a depressed mood. I don't know what's harder, writing that one part or the part where Paige first wakes up. But I could talk forever on this story..."

King Of Thieves
The sequel to Middle Class Suburbia
By Lori McDonald
Part #7 of the Gestalt Arc

Summary Under Construction

Lori Sez:
"Part Seven of the Gestalt Arc and the most ambitious of the stories I've written to date. Certainly the longest as well. By the time I reached Chapter 34, I had written over 325 pages longhand. It deals with stuff I have a lot of trouble with, like politics, so I really stretched myself with it. Now, a lot of people were wondering why I split up Remy and Rogue in it, but the answer to that is simple. These two people have a sort of psychic link between them where they're in touch with each other's bodies, but it only works at a distance. I wanted to play with that concept, which I couldn't do while they were together. I also wanted to develop their personalities without their using each other as a crutch -- to see if I could manage to bring them back together without their seeing each other, or speaking to one another at all."

Repent And Kiss
By Bones

A typical day in X-Force HQ...with the sole exception of the fact that Cable decides for reasons of his own that the rest of the team must die. One by one. Immediately. And he's perfectly capable of doing it. Does Cable really know what he's doing, or is his decision merely one of a rash of irrational homicidal urges cropping up seemingly at random among the heroes of the Marvel Universe? Why? And who will survive?

L.A. Field Trip
By bum & Harli2quin
Part #1 of the Field Trip Arc

When Angelo "Skin" Espinoza left Los Angeles to attend school in Massachusetts, he left an entire life behind. Now, that life needs him back -- more specifically, he must return, Paige in tow, to rescue a former love who's become caught up in a gang war. And you won't believe what she hasn't told him...

NOTE: This storyline is continued in Kentucky Field Trip.

Paige Sez:
"This one started when my fellow on-line simmer Harli and I got discussing what would happen if Angelo went back to L.A. (recently explored in the comics). Then we got discussing what if he took Jono and Paige with him. Then it became what if he just took Paige with him and next thing we know we're writing an add-on story that launched a little saga."

Le Coquin Malchanceux
By Kielle

A funny tongue-in-cheek poem detailing how exactly the X-Women would rebuff Gambit's advances were he to get a bit too fresh..."the knees of a ninja," snort!

Kelly Sez:
"I have nothing against Gambit, really...this was just a kick to write. Mostly to get the goat of my then-Gambit-fan friend Viky. ;) The title came from my French/English dictionary and what few scraps of French I could recall from school. It basically means 'The Unlucky Rogue' -- you heard it here. I love bad puns."

Less Than Lovers
The unofficial sequel to More Than Friends by Laersyn
By Sigil

A look at the romantic evening gone wrong -- and Jean and Remy's ensuing impromptu tryst -- from the point of view of Scott Summers...who, as it turns out, had most assuredly NOT been cut out of his wife's psilink -- ! Sad and very thoughtful. Rated adults-only for sexual content -- M/F consensual.

Lightchilde
By Brian Newberry

A timelost girl long thought dead shows up out of nowhere at the Xavier Mansion, dropping back into the lives of friends and relatives who were helpless to save her younger self from the Legacy Virus...

Lily's Strange Predicament
By Lily Fair

Lily's a normal girl in a normal world. She's never met a mutant and really doesn't know anything about them beyond what she hears -- and generally ignores -- on the news. Needless to say, she really isn't ready to wind up smack in the middle of the secret being kept by that pack of "nice but weird" types from up Massachusetts way!

Links In The Chain

The sequel to Shadowfall
By Mitchell Kelly

Summary Under Construction

Mitch Sez:
"'Links In The Chain' was written to develop Shadowflash more, and to add some more characters of my own who were not just two dimensional walk-ons. Stalker, the Spectre and Iannis had been rattling around my head for a while, and needed an outlet. They were also intended to allow me to tell a story set in the British Isles.

"The Highest Society were a group that I had developed for use in World of Darkness games. I had thought for some time that the Marvel Universe and the World of Darkness could cross over quite effectively. The Highest Society would not see a problem in extending their age-old fight to include mutants, I thought. The whole WoD connection is a line of development I intend to follow up in future stories.

"I also wanted to be able to explore writing more deeply. I had enjoyed writing the first story, and had had some nice feedback, so I wanted to do more. I thought a longer story would allow me to develop the characters more, and concentrate on background, interaction and emotion, as well as action. I also wanted to get more into the technical side. I thought that with a longer story, there would be more opportunity for detail in the writing. Not just technical detail, but descriptions of people, places, reactions and so on."

Little Miss Firecracker
By Denise Keppel & Krista Schneidereit

The X-Mansion is weird enough on a regular day, right? Now toss in one emotion-amplifier, mass PMS, a gratuitous appearance by Onslaught (who proceeds to use speed-dialing in a way it was definitely NOT intended for), Wolverine laughing so hard that he loses bladder control, and quite a lot of smacking-Bobby-around, and you get...well...uh...well, YOU read it and figure it out! ;)

NOTE: This story is directly continued in Revenge Of The Shower Rod.

Lonely Quest And Bitter Reunion
By Psyfire

Many years ago, Gabriel's twin brother was stolen away from her by the Canadian government; she's been grimly searching for him ever since. Just as she's finally about to admit defeat, a chance scent caught in the coat of a philandering Cajun may provide the second-to-last piece of the puzzle. The final piece, of course, lies in the fact that her long-lost brother doesn't remember her.

Lone Storm & Rogue's Desire
By Lady Amethyst

Lone Storm: Driven to truly think about matters with Forge during a dinner party, Ororo goes looking for Bishop afterward and something far more interesting than lightning is sparked...

Rogue's Desire: It's tough to be untouchable -- Rogue has to blow off steam somehow, unaware that she's generating even more steam in Remy's room next door thanks to a convenient peephole!

Both stories are rated adults only -- the former for M/F consensual, the latter for heavy autoeroticism and voyeurism.
