Neverlasting
A ShantyTown filk by Rossi (Rossi@subreality.com)

Yep. another piece from me. This occurred to me on the way home tonight as I was walking through the rain, getting as wet as it's possible to get without actually going swimming. Very angsty.

The song is "Everlasting" by the Manic Street Preachers on their album, "This Is My Truth, Tell Me Yours" (1998).

Rating: PG. Contains Angst. Lets hope the Angst Squad let this one pass: I'm on parole!

The gap that swallows up our lives
The gap our Writers never dreamt.
Stopped as thoughts, we've left their minds
Replaced by fictives less despised.
'Oh we're old,' I hear you say
It doesn't mean that we can't care.
I don't believe in Writers anymore
We're pathetic scraps of imagination.

In the beginning, when we were Written
When our lives were genuine.
In the beginning, when we were Written
When our smiles were genuine.
But now we're forgotten,
We're neverlasting, neverlasting.

This world is full of refugees,
They're just as lost as you and me
But as fictives we have no choice
We enter the Void with all its force.
So don't forget and don't pretend
It means nothing in the end.
What was lived in a different life
Destroys my days and haunts my nights.

In the beginning, when we were Written
When our lives were genuine.
In the beginning, when we were Written
When our smiles were genuine.
But now we're forgotten
We're neverlasting, neverlasting
But now we're forgotten
We're neverlasting, neverlasting.
