The idea of a yellow ribbon for "lost" fanficcers must be credited entirely to Indigo, who described it thus: when someone has been taken away from their loved ones (be it unfairly or by a dangerous necessity such as war), a yellow ribbon is used to show love in absentia and hope for their return. The concept is taken from the old wartime song "Tie A Yellow Ribbon 'Round The Old Oak tree" -- if you'd like to see the lyrics yourself, click here for a more modern but still faithful version. Perhaps the idea of losing Internet access might seem frivolous to those who use the yellow ribbon to keep the fires burning for P.O.W.s...but we miss our restricted friends, and we worry very much about them, and that matters deeply to us. So a yellow ribbon it is.
